Since my hiatus from blogging, I've realized how much I truly enjoy sharing the everyday trials and tribulations of parenthood with family and friends. It's a fun spot to come back to when I'm feeling ~~like Logan has pushed every last one of my buttons and I want to pull my hair out~~ challenged, and I am hopeful it will provide some fun memories as the kids get older. Livin' In Luxury

A week or so ago, we were able to meet Grandma Jill and Grandpa Ronnie in Columbia for a quick overnight while they were visiting Alex at school. We stayed in a hotel, and Logan thought this was very cool. We ate pizza for lunch and swam by the pool, but then it was time for a nap. Before going to sleep, Logan thought he need another piece of pizza - while sitting naked on the bed, of course. He sat there for almost 20 minutes, didn't move, and ate the entire piece, looking happy as a lark.

A Jungle Adventure

While cooking dinner tonight, Logan informed me that he wanted to go on an 'Adventure.' He had already packed his backpack and was ready to go. I told him to grab his adventure hat (having no clue which of his hats he'd grab) and decided that dinner could wait.

Initially, he looked at me, assuming I should know, that we would need to go outside for the adventure. Duh. So out we headed into the 100 degree heat on an 'Adventure.' He started out walking through the jungle (yes, the photo above is the jungle he so courageously trudged through).

I was then told to 'get rope.' I decided that the twine I use for gardening would have to work since it's what I had handy.

We needed the rope to climb the tree. Yes, Logan said to me, 'Use rope. Climb tree. On jungle adventure.'

So we tried to make it work.

But as you can imagine, climbing a tree, with no low climbing branches and with a very skinny piece of twine just doesn't work out so well. Logan was a bit disappointed but we agreed he would head to the park to find some trees to climb with Dad tomorrow - he seemed happy with that, and overall had a pretty adventurous 'Adventure.'

Summer Vaca - Part Deux

Part Deux of our Summer Vaca was just as much fun as the beginning portion! Logan had lots of fun in the sun and water while at the Lake! Granny Franny and Papa D were able to spend the entire week with us as well. Logan took his very first 13 hour boat trip to the other side of the Lake and did great. Thank goodness his bed was on the boat we rode because he was worn out!

It was forecasted to rain all week and other than when we made our initial arrival, we were lucky enough to miss the rain all week. Well, other than the two times we had a slight mist, which meant we were able to see not one, but two rainbows!

Logan discovered buried treasure in the Pirate sandbox from his Lake neighbor friend, Audrey - so fun!!

Logan made two new friends, "Pinkie" and "Greenie," who were a part of an 8 foot swimming pool he received for his birthday from Aunt Carla and Uncle Dennis.

The pool not only included Logan's new friends but a waterfall and slide too!

And the trip wouldn't have been complete without multiple wave runner rides. This time, Logan tried out riding in the tube behind. He wasn't as thrilled as we thought he'd be though. Not because he didn't like the tube, but because he wanted to be on the wave runner pulling the tube the whole time!

Summer Vaca - Part Uno

Nana's birthday was a wonderful celebration in and of itself, but it was also a kick-off to our 10 day family vacation. We spent some time with family at Grandma Jill and Grandpa Ronnie's house first...

The beautiful Gi-Gi was there and able to spend some time "pool-side" with Logan

Logan and Dad practiced swimming as well as telling everyone PEACE!

Logan pushed around his new choo-choo from Gi-Gi...

We ate fresh fruit, veggies and herbs the entire time...yummy!

Gi-Gi made fresh pavlova. Uh-mazing!

We noticed that although their may be a large generation gap, everyone loves a good game of Solitaire :)

Logan enjoyed his first tea party with Nana.

And Logan was able to spend some fun times running around in the sprinkler with cousins, Nick and Kelsey!

What a great kick-off to a fun filled week!

99 Cupcakes with Candles on Top

Last week, my Nana turned 99 and we were lucky enough to get to celebrate with her in Macomb last weekend!

She enjoyed gluten-free cupcakes...

As well as some delicious corn on the cobb...

And was able to pick some fresh peppers and tomatoes from the garden for her friends back home.

We had the most wonderful time visiting and celebrating.

Typically while Logan is napping (like many other parents) I utilize the quiet time and do work, laundry, and clean the house, etc. A few weeks ago after awaking from a much needed nap, Logan woke up and walked downstairs. He reached the living room and stopped dead in his tracks staring.

"Clean, Mommy.

Mommy, cleaned floor.

Use vacuum.

Looks...nice."

Yep, I might just have the sweetest son on the face of the earth. A child, who at just 2 years old, noticed I vacuumed and told me it looked NICE!! Now how about that for the "Terrible Two's."

The oh-so-cool Band-Aid

A few weeks ago, poor Logan had an unfortunate incident with a friend's dog and he got his first real 'boo-boo.' He was a little shaken up at first at the sight of the blood but did really well allowing Jason and I to clean it up and bandage him. In fact, he became incessant that we clean the boo-boo with alcohol swabs and put on a new band-aid at least once a day.

He also became quite the drama queen when I was around for extra attention. He would dramatically limp, pout, and say, "Mama - hurt," indicating that he needed some extra love. Initially, I fell for it (and didn't mind the extra cuddles I had to put out), but then it got a little excessive. Limping to the point I had to carry him and acting as if he might just loose the leg! I determined it was a scam when he and Jason played t-ball shortly after the incident and he frolicked through the yard with no problems what so ever. Seriously, where do they learn these things? Or is it just something they are born to do?!

Somehow we've been lucky enough to make it past two years old before Logan had to sport his first band-aid. But the time came, and he's worn the band-aid proudly. Now, to convince him not to wear the oh-so-cool band-aid any longer, that's a whole different story...

Go, My, Home!

Last week, Logan and I were lucky enough to spend the week in Macomb with Nama Jill and Grandpa 'RonDog' at ~~their house~~ 'Nama's House' as Logan says.

We had a blast just hanging out and playing in baby pools and sprinklers.

It was hot, so we had to find a way to stay cooled off while still playing outside!

Clearly, Logan really enjoyed himself!

He visited with Braisy's mom and dad...

And Logan ~~realized~~ insisted that since he was in the country, he could run around naked through the water and really anywhere he wanted to go.

He splashed a lot with Nama and Grandpa!

And was able to appreciate a lot that nature has to offer...

And then it was time to go home. Initially, he said no - he wanted to stay, and then he remembered his choo-choo train at home and decided he was ready. He put on Grandpa's hat, put his water in Grandpa's fish coozie and started walking. Eventually, he turned around and said, No Mommy, ride car to my home?

And the entire ride home, all we heard was

Go, My, Home, Now.

Play choo-choo, My Home!

So, overall it was a fantastic trip. But I guess there is something to be said for being at home...

with your own choo-choo.

All Aboard!

All Aboard!! Last week we took a fun trip on the train. If you didn't know already, Logan loves choo-choo's! Grandma Jill decided that since we were visiting and had extra time we'd go for a short train ride!

We bought our tickets and checked out the train station a little bit...

Logan thought his train ticket with his full name (Logan Ramsay Dippel, which he pronounces so adorably) on it was pretty cool!

We awaited the trains arrival by listening for the train and the bells on the tracks.

Logan got pretty excited!

And then we boarded the train...

And had a blast!!

Logan carried his ticket everywhere and we talked to the conductor, toured the snack car and looked out the window, a lot!

Then the trip was over, and we forgot to prepare Logan that he wouldn't be riding the train forever.

He was sad and confused why the train left without him. :(

He's already excited for his next train ride though - what a blast!

Next time, we'll prepare him that it will eventually be coming to an end though...

Turn It Up!

With all the traveling we've been doing lately, Logan has really been letting us know what he likes and doesn't like. One of the things he likes is music in the car - loud music. The other day we were listening to a song he likes and out of no where he yelled "Turni - up!" I said, "What?" and he yelled again, "Turni - up!" So I turned it up a bit. In response he said, "More, more, turni-up!" So, we jammed out and had some fun. Since then, it's become a favorite phrase nearly every time we hit the road.

New Discoveries and Friendly Faces

We've been living in the Terrific Two's now for a little over a month and while it's got it's challenges, it most definitely has it's rewards.

Logan is talking up a storm; piecing words together 4-5 at a time and nearly making full sentences at times.

While he is a shy guy, he's been warming up more easily lately and eagerly expressing his personality around others a bit more than he has in the past.

While visiting the Lake, he simply can't wait to get play time with one of his Lake buddies - Audrey. As parents, we don't want to put too much pressure on either of them, but I think we all see quite the friendship developing already...

Not only is he talking away, but he is just so smart! Of course, all parents think their child is brilliant, but he amazes me each day with new discoveries and tasks he figures out on his own, or simply by watching others and repeating.

He's also such a good listener and follows directions so easily. While he of course has his moments, when asked to do most any task, he is typically ready and willing.

We're so lucky and proud to be able to say we are the parents of this little guy!

And to think it just keeps getting better...Life is Good.

Logan was lucky enough to have his Uncle Dennis take him fishing a while back. We weren't so sure how long he'd sit still and wait for the fish to bite, but as you can see from the image below, he is as comfortable as can be and seemed to fit into the role of fisherman perfectly.

He helped 'cast' the line.

Held the pole.

And waited patiently...

And caught a "big one" as he likes to say.

Thanks Uncle Dennis for getting our little fisherman started with his first catch. Now, if we can just get Logan to grasp the concept that there are certain kinds of fish we eat and others that we don't. Example - goldfish.

What Can I Say...It's Lake Season

It's the season of sunshine, boat rides, shades and splashes, which also means we're living out of a suite case again. So, bare with me family and friends...I'll try to keep up a little better from now on!

We've been hitting up the Lake as much as possible this year and Logan is loving every minute of it! It is not too early to say that Logan is a water lover for sure. We reluctantly started having him sleep on the boat and let me tell you that I can't believe we've been able to transition him back to his regular bed upon our arrival home! He loves sleeping on the boat so much that we're beginning to miss him because he sleeps so much! If you ask him where he get's to sleep when at the Lake, he will say without missing a beat, "PAPA'S BOAT!"

The weather has been gorgeous (even hot at times) and unlike past years it's been great to be able to get in the water and float around this early in the summer. Logan obviously has to wear his life jacket, well, pretty much the entire weekend and honestly, doesn't seem to have a problem with it! As expected, he's been ecstatic about wave runner and boat rides - he can't seem to get enough.

So, my apologies for the lack of posts and I will try to be better about posting more regularly.

But, what can I say...Lake season is here!

As you may or may not know, Logan received this adorable Super "L" cape for his birthday from his friend Jackson. He wears it regularly and truly believes it makes him go faster.

DISCLAIMER: This post will be confusing. Pay close attention as it may be difficult to follow!

Mommy: "Who wants a pepper?!"

Logan: "You!"

Mommy: "Me?"

Logan: "No, you...er...me"

Mommy: "You do?"

Logan: "Me!"

Mommy: "Who wants a pepper?"

Logan: "You, Yemeh!"

What a conversation, right? It really doesn't make much sense. It doesn't make sense because Logan thinks his name is you. After telling him over and over, "No, you do it," or "You want one?" he has come to believe his name is you. After much correction, he will catch himself and say, me. And after a lot of prompting he will use his actual name, talking in the third person, which he pronounces, Yemeh. He talks quite often and annunciates most things pretty well, but obviously has a hard time with his name. Poor guy, it's no wonder he resisted saying Logan for so long!

So, we'll get the hang of it eventually, but for now,

Party, Party, Party!

This weekend Logan had his much anticipated, birthday party! We had been obsessively watching the forecast, hoping for no rain...and we got our wish :) It was a little chilly, but sunny and gorgeous for the most part.

The kids ate cupcakes together and everyone sang happy birthday.

The adults enjoyed visiting with one another as the kids played.

And the weather stayed beautiful!

We are so lucky to have such wonderful friends and family! Logan received such thoughtful gifts. A handmade Super "L" Hero cape, a new bubble mower, a very handy tool box, a pretend pet dog and the necessities to care for him, the most adorable bath toy that is tons of fun in the bath, a super cool water bottle and several new books that we have been reading over and over since the party, as well as many other goodies that I'm sure will be featured on the blog in the weeks to come!

Logan had several of his favorite friends at the party. Unfortunately, I didn't take nearly as many pics as I had hoped for :(

Jackson showed us how to party down since he knows what it's like to have a 2nd birthday party!

Dalton sat back and dreamed of what his first birthday will be like...

Joey from down the street helped out the the little ones and seemed to be practicing since he's a big brother to be. Hallie tried a juice box for the first time and to her mother's delight didn't really care for it! Mason tested out several of Logan's toys and gave the smile of approval, while little Ellie peered around watching the bigger kids in amazement.

Overall, the party was a hit! What a fun time watching all these little ones growing up...

Happy Birthday Logan!! TWO!!

This year we went to Deanna Rose Farmstead again for Logan's birthday. We had such a fun time together, although it was pretty busy with bus loads of school kids (Logan was thrilled to see the yellow school buses though!) We went out to lunch and then out for ice-cream at Logan's request later in the day.

It's amazing to see how much he's changed in so many ways from his first birthday to his second. It should be a wild ride seeing what the terrific two's will bring us... :)

Fill 'er Up!

Since Spring is here, it was time to bring out the lawn mower. Logan has been pushing his popping lawn mower all over the place in this beautiful weather! Everyone knows in order to run a lawn mower, you need gas. Well, above is Logan's "gas" for his lawn mower. Yes, it is a yellow cylinder block that he just sets right in the gas hole when we tell him he better fill up with gas before he goes any further.

We have no idea why a yellow block would be the "gas" but it seems to be a totally logical solution for Logan. As you can see, his imagination is beginning to go wild - we can't wait to see what else he starts coming up with in the coming months and years :) I can only imagine...

What a great Easter this year! The Easter bunny left some great goodies for Logan as well as a fun Easter Egg Hunt! Logan really got into it this year and was a bit disappointed when he realized he had found all the eggs.

Later, more excitement came with brunch on the Plaza, live music, huge Easter statues and beautiful weather!

Love Is Where You Find It

What is this photo you may ask yourself?

The other morning, Logan was eating breakfast and so sweetly and purposefully spilled his juice all over. I was busy getting a towel in the kitchen when I heard him yelling,

"Heart, heart"

I initially thought, what the heck is he yelling so loud at!?

I ran in to try and figure out what he was talking about. He kept pointing to his juice yelling and I kept correcting him.

"No, sweetie - spill, mess."

Then, I looked a little closer to see that he was right - there was in fact a heart in his juice!

It's funny, because I've had a piece of art since high school that I love - Love Found. It's a compilation of life photos where hearts and images of love are found in random places - rocks, graffiti, clouds, garbage, raindrops etc. It's supposed to serve as inspiration to find love in the world around us.

How ironic, that Logan of all people is the one who discovered and accurately pointed out that love is all around us - it's the little things, right?

Dear Spring...

Dear Spring,

When will you be here? While I do like Winter (mostly because I enjoy playing in the snow) I am eager and excited for you to visit! My mom still takes me on wagon rides but they aren't the same when I have to wear a coat, hat, mittens and a blanket. Plus, sometimes I still get cold.

I'm happy because the sun has been out the last couple days, but it's been kind of tricky because I think it's warm, then go outside only to find that it's still really cold! I wish it would warm up so I can play at the park without mittens - I can climb better that way.

Please don't tell Winter I've written as I don't want him to feel as if I'm betraying him, but I feel that he's beginning to overstay his welcome a bit.

I appreciate you listening and am hopeful to see you very soon. Your warmth, regrowth and bright colors are much needed!

This is what I always said in response to people when they'd ask if he'd had his first haircut:

How can he get his hair cut when he doesn't have any hair?!

Finally, it was time to rid of the infamous wings and rats nest that gathered at the back of his head. Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures post-haircut. The trim has actually helped though and Logan was such a good boy through the entire cut!

Choo-choo or Gi-Gi?

Logan and I spent a long weekend in Macomb visiting Grandma and Grandpa. Logan was having a great time when he thought it couldn't get any better, but it did...

Gi-Gi decided to visit on the Choo-choo which means Logan was able to see a real Choo-Choo!

He was able to meet the conductor!

And even wear his hat!!

(Logan doesn't look happy here - but believe me, he's ecstatic!)

Through the weekend, Logan couldn't decide - should he call her Gi-Gi or Choo-choo? He spent the weekend repeating both and pointing at her or hugging and kissing her.

And then, after she had to leave, over and over we heard this:

Gi-Gi, Choo-choo, Bye-bye...

I guess as he gets older we'll see what he decides to call her, Gi-Gi or Choo-choo :)

The Wheels On the Bus Go Round and Round and Round and Round and Round and Round...

One of Logan's new favorites: the school bus. He loves to see school buses on the street, talk about school buses, yell the word BUS!, read books about school buses, sing songs about school buses and most of all listen to the Wheels on the Bus Go 'Round and 'Round over and over and over...

Ironically, he now has three books about school buses, four versions of Wheels on The Bus on the iPod, and two toy school buses thanks to his Grandpa Ronnie who found $40 while on a walk with Logan. He gave half to Logan to buy a new toy and Logan picked a toy bus and book about buses. Also, thanks to Great-Aunt B who just mailed him the Little People school bus and must have just known how much he loves school buses - thank you! :)

Mittens Doggies

I agreed here to tell you more about Logan's doggies. No, we did not get another puppy - these are simply Logan's mittens. Several months ago on a short shopping excursion to the Plaza, Jason and Logan went off on their own. They came back with these - the doggies. The doggies go everywhere that it may be cold: wagon rides, the park, sledding, grocery store, school, etc. Logan thinks they are awesome and they keep his hands warm; two birds one stone.

So, there you have it - those, my friends are what we call doggies.

Mi-Mi

This is ~~Mason~~ Mi-Mi. You've seen Mi-Mi (that's what Logan calls her) here and here before as we've played on several occasions. Logan really likes her. After we leave from playing with Mi-Mi, Logan says her name over and over and over...

This week we were able to meet Mi-Mi and her mom, Juana at the Children's Museum - so fun. We all had a blast - I think Juana and I were just as entertained as the kids half the time!

Just like last time, Logan was really into the H2Oh! room!

In fact, we all were!

Have you ever been so tired you could just fall asleep no matter when it is or what you are doing? Okay, so as adults we may feel like we could, but we probably wouldn't just completely pass out. Logan on the other hand, did just that. He was on a walk with Grandpa Ronnie and came back looking...well not alive to be honest. He was totally out! I never thought Logan was capable of falling asleep in random places and it's just so funny to me. Have your little ones turned Narcoleptic on you? Tell me about it!

We've been working on discipline lately; it can be challenging, to say the least with a toddler. After throwing toys across the room, I told Logan he was in need of a time out. He responded by repeating back to me Ti Out, grabbing his sombrero and standing silently in the corner for 30 seconds.

Today we went to the park - it was 26 degrees. Logan insisted on taking off his mittens (otherwise known as doggies, which will be explained at a later time) so he could climb and move well. We were planning on going for a short walk and throwing the ball for Braisy so he could burn off a little energy. But (my mistake) we went to the park to throw the ball (what was I thinking?) and Logan wanted to burn off a little energy too. As we strolled by, he continued yelling and pointing, Pah, pah. So, we stopped and he played at the pah while I threw the ball for Braisy.

Lately, Logan has been all about telling everyone and everything "hi" and "bye" so when it was time to leave the park he yelled bye-bye loud and clear. Then he ran away from me, which is unlike him. I followed only to find out that he was giving the playground equipment a kiss bye-bye and then walked right back over to me and grabbed my hand...what a guy.

You've probably been asking yourself: why do I even keep checking the blog if it's not going to be updated?!? Well friends, I'm back... finally!

Since we've been back from Steamboat, things have not slowed down and needless to say, we hit the ground running upon our arrival home. There has been a to-do list as long as you can imagine and unfortunately the blog has been pushed towards the bottom.

One of the many to-do list items has been to get our Christmas decorations (including our ~~live~~ dead tree) down! Typically, I'm kind of sad to have to do this monotonous task, but this year it's felt like the decorations have been up for months on end and I'm happy to finally get them out of here! Logan on the other hand had a little more difficult time (emotionally) getting rid of the big Fraser Fir he so kindly kissed night-night before bed every evening. He is still peering out the window mumbling, Tee...bye, bye. I wish he could stay this sweet forever!

So, you may be optimistically thinking that since there has been a blog publication, this means the list has diminished completely, but fortunately or unfortunately (depending on how you look at it), I've been blessed with the genes of my great-grandmother, grandmother and mother...meaning that I'm constantly adding to a never-ending list. While the list doesn't end, I most certainly will be doing some rearranging in order to keep everyone up to date with pictures and publications. Things should be slowing down a bit, which means the list will get smaller...maybe.

Skiin' the 'Boat

Jason and I recently took a long weekend and went skiing in Steamboat Springs, Colorado again. We had a wonderful time together! The above view was just outside our condo, so imagine the views from the top of the mountain! Gorgeous!

The skiing was decent but they were pretty low on snow which meant there were lots of spotty patches. Unfortunately, the last day I hit a stump on one of those bare patches and tweaked my knee. There were no permanent injuries but I decided to call it a day to be safe and hang out in the lodge. I think that Jason may have planted that stump there because this allowed him to ski with a buddy from work (who lives in Steamboat) and hit a great double black on the back side of the mountain. Lot's of fun for him! I had my Bloody Mary though and was a happy camper too! :)

It was a short, but great trip as I was also able to meet up with a friend from high school who lives in Steamboat as well. Who knew we had so many connections in such a small mountain town!?! Ha!

The only skiing Logan did while we were gone was in his head while reading Go Dog Go. He was lucky enough to stay back with Granny Franny and Papa D. It sounds like they had lots of fun! They stayed in Kansas City for a night and then headed to Iowa to enjoy some peace and quiet. What a fun trip for us all! Hopefully, next year Logan can come with, although I'm a little scared to imagine him on skis just yet...yikes!

Bed Tent Bugs

Logan received the best gift for Christmas from Aunt Carla, Uncle Dennis and Nicole - a bug tent! What is a bug tent you ask? Well, it is a place to camp out, eat snacks, have a picnic with your "friends," hide out, read books, roll around and peek out the windows, or really do just about anything you can think of when your 20 months old...so much fun!

Today we woke up to 6 more inches of snow on the ground - on top of the nearly 12 that we already had! School was canceled (it was his first day back after the Holiday break) so Logan was able to have his first snow day! When we were headed outside to enjoy some fun in the snow we joked that Logan completely looks like Ralphie's little brother Randy on The Christmas Story. What do you think?

A Little Bit of Cabin Fever...

Over the weekend in his own way, Logan communicated to us, let me out of here!! Because it was so cold, we only went outside when completely necessary and for one walk, which was short and sweet. We brought the snow gear, but unfortunately there wasn't any snow - just cold. On our last day, he found his boots, Jason's hat and my scarf and sat starring out the window repeatedly saying, coat, coat, coat...

I'm thinking that Logan's outburst was prompted by nothing else...but good old cabin fever. Luckily, just that morning it had started to snow. So, naturally it was sledding time! Nothing like a little sledding to solve the ailments of the aged old sickness of cabin fever. Even Braisy was feeling better after the festivities!

Happy 2010 to all! We brought in 2010 at the Lake with family and friends this year. Logan of course spent the first hours of 2010 sleeping but awoke to a weekend of fun. He was able to play with two of his favorite girl-friends Audrey (our Lake neighbor) and Mason (who is only a few days younger than him).

Snow, Snow, and More Snow!

Traditionally, we spend Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in Kansas City with Jason's side of the family and in the afternoon travel to spend the remainder of the holiday with Granny Franny, Papa D, Aunt Dana and Uncle Brandon in Iowa. This year's intentions were the same as every other, but the weather put a little spin on our plans. As the snow began to approach, we realized that if we were to stay in Kansas City until Christmas Day, we probably wouldn't make it to Iowa...so after much debate it was decided we would head to Iowa early, which meant celebrating our immediate family Christmas a day early! Logan is so young, he had no idea, which worked out well!

We set out brownies and milk for Santa and of course carrots for the reindeer. Logan awoke and found that Santa was very kind to him this year! We enjoyed a breakfast casserole and mimosas, packed and loaded our belongings and headed out that afternoon for Iowa.
And, boy it's a good thing we left when we did! The roads were awful, but after slow travels we made it safely to be snowed in for the entire weekend!
No one really seemed to mind, considering our plans were to enjoy each other's company throughout the entire weekend regardless.
Logan received lots of fun toys - one of his favorites being a plastic recorder and harmonica in his stocking. He received a mini four-wheeler from Granny Franny and Papa D as well as a basketball hoop from Aunt Dana and Uncle Brandon - with such cool and generous gifts, who would have thought the recorder would have gotten so much use so far!? :)
The snow ended up being lots of fun and while Logan was napping, the adults decided to act like kids and head outside!
Even Braisy enjoyed the snow playing festivities!
Once it finally quit snowing and blowing, Logan came out for a while to give his new snow boots a try. He thinks they are pretty cool...

Some of Logan's other favorites from the weekend were dancing with a stuffed singing dog and searching around the house for the cat while doing a pretty darn funny cat impression.
And of course, getting to ride the real four wheeler with dad was a highlight too...even though his poor little cheeks and nose were bright red by the time we made him come inside.
While this year was a little different from others, we had a wonderful time and are once again thankful for all of our fabulous family members who made this holiday season the special one it was. I hope you and your family were blessed with the same - Merry Christmas!

March of the Penguins

This past weekend was our third annual trip to what my side of family has come to call - The Penguin House. It's the weekend before Christmas where we spend an entire weekend together to celebrate Christmas - yes, thirteen of us, under one roof for four days. The house is located in Galena, Illinois at Eagle Ridge Resort and was dubbed the Penguin House the first year because of the two large ceramic penguins that sit all year around on the mantle. The following year, we each received a smaller penguin figurine, which represents each member of the family.

While together, we spend the weekend visiting, exchanging gifts and of course eating constantly! It has snowed every year we've been there and we decided to bring a sled this year for Logan (as opposed to the makeshift box we turned into a sled last year). Unfortunately, the snow was a bit iced over and Logan hated the noise because it was so loud. So, he walked with the rest of us like a big boy.

We thought he'd have fun exploring in the snow, but were clearly wrong as you can see...

While he wasn't a fan of sitting in the snow, he loved sitting on the penguin door mat munching on a huge icicle - real safe, huh? He was pretty upset when we told him it was time to head inside.

My mom will be 50! the day after Christmas and we threw her a SURPRISE party while were there! If you know my mom, this was a huge task planning a party without her knowing! It was a success though! :)

It was really fun opening presents with Logan this year. He of course wasn't lacking in the gift receiving department and it isn't even Christmas yet!

For the first time, we built a gingerbread house too, which Logan received earlier in the week from his Great Grandad Ernie and GiGi Vi. We had a great time ~~decorating~~ eating it and it was a festive centerpiece for Christmas dinner!

The boys even built us a cute little snowman! We had fun changing his hat and accessories throughout the weekend.

And here's our cutie pushing around one of his favorite gifts of the weekend - a popper lawn mower. Loud and obnoxious; easy to push and durable - the perfect gift for our little toddler!

Here Comes Santa Claus...Here Comes Santa Clause...

A week or two ago, we reluctantly agreed it was time to take Logan to see Santa. I say we were reluctant because I had heard stories and was picturing a worst case scenario with Logan screaming, clawing and pulling away from Santa to of course...be back in Mama's arms. Because neither Jason or I wanted to battle the mall crowds, we decided the Mission Lights Festival would be the perfect way for Logan to meet Santa for the first time in person.

We made our arrival just in time to see the lights of the tree turn on for the first time - Logan was impressed and really enjoyed the lights!

We then went over to roast some marshmallows - another first that Logan devoured!

Soon after, Mr. and Mrs. C made their grand entrance on their Cyber Sleigh! This is no regular old sleigh, it's a suped up sleigh with flashing lights, a joy stick and blasting Christmas tunes with a strong beat. As you can imagine, Logan thought this was pretty awesome!

So we began the wait in line to see the infamous Santa. Meanwhile, asking (confirming) if Logan was excited or even wanted to see Santa. He eagerly nodded his head yes, over and over and over. So, we thought...okay, we'll see how this goes.

It was our turn, I plopped him on Santa's lap while Jason snapped away with the camera. I stood nearby in case he were to freak out as we had expected. Nothing. He did absolutely - nothing but stare at Santa's beard. He loved it and honestly, I think Jason and I could have left to drink a little hot cider by the fire for a bit and he wouldn't have even cared! So, we swooped him up and went on with our festivities, of course asking him through the night, "did you have fun with Santa," in which he'd reply either, "yes," or the infamous, "mo, mo, mo," indicating more in sign language. Boy, did we underestimate his relationship with Santa...

Fortunate Soul

Yesterday, we found out just how much Logan loves fortune cookies! He reached, pointed and grunted - which if you aren't familiar, is toddler speak for, "could I please have one of those yummy looking things?" So, I let him try one - well, I started with half. And he wouldn't only take half, he wanted the whole thing. So, I gave in; there are worse things he could be eating, right? He devoured it!

Then, after dinner he wanted to finish up with some fruit in his playroom at the big-boy table. I offered him a banana or (not sure why this was an option?) a fortune cookie. Of course, he chose a fortune cookie. And let me tell you - it must have been meant to be that he'd eat not one but two fortune cookies for the first time because check out his fortune! I thought it was funny and fitting anyway...

Let it Snow...

Finally...some snow in Kansas City! Logan has been so cute watching the snow falling outside; it hasn't been much but at least there is a little dusting on the ground to make it white and festive for the holiday season!

Not only has he been excited about the real snow flakes falling outside but also the faux flakes that make up the infamous snow globe! We have a few of them sitting around as decorations and he loves everything about them, the little objects inside, the music, and of course the little white specs that swirl around every time you shake it up!

Each time we get one of the snow globes out he wants us to do it over and over again - indicating this of course by signing "more" in sign language and verbally yelling, "Mo, mo, mo, mo..."

So, we're enjoying the snow thus far - inside and out! In my opinion, if it's going to be cold outside, it might as well be snowy and beautiful, right? So, as the ever so popular song says...Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

A belated Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! We have so much to be thankful for and were able to spend the entire last week enjoying some of those things! We spent the week in Macomb again with Grandma Jill, Grandpa Ronnie and Uncle Alex. Jason was excited to participate in the opening day of deer season again. As you can see, Logan was pretty excited too but forced to stay behind with Grandma Jill and Mommy - don't worry he still had a lot of fun with us too!
Thanksgiving was really fun this year since Logan is a little older and able to talk, walk and understand more. Dinner was fabulous as always and I still feel full from eating ALL week long!

While we enjoyed the beautifully delicious turkey, Logan engorged himself in olives - this was by far his favorite part of the meal! I'm not sure if he really likes the taste of them, or the fact that we let him wave across the table to everyone with them on his fingers...

Since the weather was unseasonably warm, we were able to enjoy several days outside at the park and taking wagon rides. We had a wonderful time and are excited that the holiday season has started - we hope that you and your family had a nice Thanksgiving as well! Now...off to get ready for Christmas - I'm already tired...

Logan: The Kissing Bandit

If you haven't heard about (or experienced) Logan the Kissing Bandit, you are about to find out about this little man. Logan really likes to give kisses. Period. I've blogged about this topic before here but since then, it's gotten worse, or better I guess, depending on how you look at it. It all started when we taught him to give his mommy and daddy kisses, then his grandparents, his aunts and uncles, etc. I then noticed that while playing in his playroom, sometimes he'd give his "friends," (stuffed animals) kisses too, he then moved on to his giant ape, Mr. Potato Head, his toy horse, his big red ball, and the list goes on and on and on and on...

The other night before bed, he even gave the wall a kiss - totally unprompted! So, it's funny enough in and of itself that Logan the Kissing Bandit kisses everything in site when he's feeling kind, but there's more to his story. After his bedtime routine each night, we read a book, turn out the lights and rock in his chair for a few minutes before putting him into his crib. Every once and a while when rocking with his head on my shoulder, he will lean up and give an unexpected little kiss...so cute, huh? Well, then he'll put his head down for a few seconds, look up and do it again, and again, and again...you get the picture. It was totally adorable the first few times, as each kiss was so innocent, as if he was just trying to say, "I love you Mom!." But one time, I made the mistake of letting it go on for nearly 20 minutes -- bad move, it's now a game. I have now learned my lesson, after just a few kisses, it's crib time. I'm not sure that there are any other moms out there that have to put their kids to bed for kissing them too much!?!

So, there it is friends, the story of Logan the Kissing Bandit - watch yourself next time he is around, there could be a kiss awaiting you! :)

My Baby is Growing Up!

I feel like I say it all the time, but -- my baby is growing up! Where does the time go? We've had Logan's 18 month checkup and he is 25 pounds (30th percentile) and 32 1/2 inches (60th percentile) - long and lean like his dad! I was thinking about how much he's changed even since his last well visit to the doctor, which was at 12 months...

He is no longer walking, but running everywhere!
He's on the verge of combining two words together and I'm guessing will be a jabber box by X-Mas!
He climbs on everything!
He can eat as much as his dad for dinner some nights!
He now enjoys getting his nose wiped and loves doing it himself (not sure what that's about)!
He's graduated to a big boy car seat and faces forward!
He can eat well with a fork and spoon!
He's now only taking one nap vs. two!
He can brush his own teeth!
He's in an entirely new wardrobe - and it's not because of the season change!

Obviously, there are tons of other milestones that have happened, and that's just in the last 6 months. Don't get me started on the last 18 months!

We met to walk with friends Kelli and Dalton (who is 6 weeks) and it really hit me how grown up Logan is! I still think of him as this tiny little baby and he's anything but! Anyway, I'm sure I'll have many more posts titled something just like this because I just can't believe how quickly they grow before your eyes...I know it's totally cliche but it's so true! Why can't we freeze them in time?!

Dodge Town!

Last week we were lucky enough to be out and about enjoying the weather and were able to go somewhere new to us - Dodge Town! Dodge Town is inside Antioch Park in Overland Park and has several miniature buildings (Town Hall, Bank, Hotel, etc.) that make up a little town where kids can run through and play outside.

Logan visited the jail for a bit! Don't worry, he didn't do anything illegal to get there...just thought it was fun to crawl through the tunnel to get there!

We were also lucky to have friends Juana and Mason come with us to check out this hidden gem! Mason and Logan are still at the age where they'd rather play alone, but do love watching each other and checking out the older kids!

We had so much fun that we convinced Jason to come back with us on Saturday to play. The weather was beautiful and we couldn't have picked a more fun place to spend time together this weekend.

After all of Logan's Halloween festivities we've actually had to hide his Lion costume because he loves it so much and if we let him, would wear it every day! He had a lot of fun on Halloween visiting friends and relatives and was trying really hard to say trick or treat from time to time.

So, overall it was a great weekend, although I must say that the time change has taken it's toll on our poor Lion's sleep habits. He's been getting up almost 2 hours earlier than normal and isn't making it up in naps, so is getting a bit ferocious with the lack of sleep. Hopefully, as the week goes by he will begin to adjust to it getting lighter earlier and darker earlier. The weather is gorgeous though, so we're trying to get as much use out of the park and wagon as we can while it's still nice enough to be out and about!

We Got Boo'd!

This week - we got boo'd! Have you heard of this? Because, when I opened the door and there was a little gift bag of goodies awaiting us, I knew nothing of this fun little tradition. Here's how it works: after ~~receiving a goodie bag and ghost letter~~ being boo'd, you hang the ghost letter on your front door so everyone else knows you've been boo'd and doesn't boo you again. You then copy the letter and get together two goodie bags for the neighbors of your choice. After dark, you boo two of your neighbors by placing the goodie bag on their porch, ringing the doorbell and running away. So here are some of the goodies we gathered for our neighbors...

After dark, Logan and I gathered our goodie bags and headed out. Prior to leaving, I explained to my 18 month little guy how quiet we needed to be so we wouldn't get caught. As soon as we stepped out the door he thought it was hilarious to yell down the street - boo, boo, boo! Okay, it was really cute but out of all the times he could have yelled? Really? So, maybe there are worse situations I can think of...

Needless to say, our boo mission was successfully completed. It's already been a fun week filled with lots of pumpkins and Halloween celebrations. Logan has already worn his costume three times and still has three more events to attend before the big Halloween soiree! Thank goodness he loves wearing his costume!!

Everyone Loves Mail!

Everyone loves mail, especially when it's a package! This week Logan got a package from his Great-Uncles in New Orleans! When we saw it, ~~mommy~~ Logan ran and tore it open in excitement and inside was this precious little t-shirt! It is from the most adorable little New Orleans inspired stationary and invitation shop called Two Sprouts. The saying on the shirt is so true...who wants candy when you can have delicious Cajun food like craw fish, creole tomatoes and french bread! So, I guess this makes you think twice when you say, 'Trick or Treat, Trick or Treat - give me something good to eat!" Thanks Uncle Ken and Uncle Burt!!

This weekend we had friends from out of town visit. They have a two and a half year old - Tanner, who is hilarious! He and Logan really hit it off and had a lot of fun goofing around with each other all weekend. They chased each other around the park, took several wagon rides together and even shared a few meals with one another. While the boys played, we parents enjoyed some much needed catch up time visiting with one another! When it was time to leave the boys even embraced in the most adorable hug you can imagine. Too bad we didn't catch a pic of that one!
